Google has launched a new feature for its Gemini subscribers called Gems, enabling users to create custom chatbots tailored to their needs. By naming the chatbot and setting specific instructions, users can personalize these chatbots with unique characteristics for more customized interactions.

“You can create and save Gems to customize responses in Gemini Apps to your specific needs,” Google stated.

For those who don’t want to create their own, Google offers pre-made Gems as well. Custom Gems are particularly advantageous for repetitive tasks, as they eliminate the need to provide instructions repeatedly.

Introduced at Google's I/O event in May, the Gems feature is now available to Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users on both mobile and desktop. This paid feature is accessible in over 150 countries and supports more than 30 languages.

Google's introduction of Gems is seen as a strategic move to compete with OpenAI’s custom GPTs, which were launched last year and are available through the GPT Store, allowing users to create personalized AI models.
